Figgle Fest first began in 2012, when the Figheldean Community Events team set up a Picnic in the Park to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee. The event took place on the village playing field next to the village hall and included children’s entertainment and live music for the grown ups. It was so successful, we decided to keep a picnic in the park themed event going every year.

In 2013, we re-named the event Figgle Fest after the common mis-pronunciation of Figheldean as ‘Figgle-dean’. In the past, we have been delighted to receive funds from Wiltshire Council to help with buying a public address (PA) system, as well as a marquee for our village street party to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday. Originally, the stages for Figgle Fest’s continuous live entertainment consisted of just two lorries.

The success and growth of the event over the years has allowed us to progress to a full stage set up, with an array of live local bands gracing the stage each year.

Children’s entertainment is also provided and has previously consisted of Bouncy Castles, Face Painters, dunk tank and performers from the Wessex Community Circus.

Besides the funding we receive, we also set up our own local fundraising events, which include an Easter Duck Race between the two bridges in Figheldean, Carol Singing around the village and various Raffles throughout the year.

Other local annual music events have now been set up using the same formula as ours, so we feel very proud of our achievements.

What makes this project special? Bringing the community together with their friends and families, getting locals involved to help organise all of the events, whether it be helping set up Figgle Fest on playing field, joining in with the carol singing or attending the Duck race. There is always something for the community to look forward to in Figheldean!
